Belated Thanksgiving Day - part 3

After the mandatory naptime - we decided to go out and shoot Jason's guns. I think he has 3. I am not a fan of guns and found out he broke the rule of having a gun in my home before he had moved out. He's on the Naughty List for sure. First off, the pistol. Good form. See the bullet? Go away Jason.

I don't want to listen to a NL Boy. (naughty list). I'm so mean.
Next, he pulled out his shotgun and we tried to shot clay pigeons. Doug got a whopping 5 out of 5. Stud. Katie: 3 out of 5. Allan: 2 out of 5. He's a lefty.

Shannon: 0 out of 5. Me, 0 out of 1. I didn't enjoy shooting it at all. Now for Jason. I don't recall how many he got. Not many. And not because of his shooting skills. It was mostly a 'pigeon thrower' problem. Katie trying, Allan trying, Shannon tried to throw a couple but I didn't take a picture of her. I didn't even try. After watching the 3 before me and my tummy hurting so much from laughing at them, I didn't want to put my self out there for humiliation as well. Jason losing hope, asked Dad to help out, who did alright after a few dud throws. . As you can see from our attire - IT WAS COLD!

The girls stayed in the back of the 'burb' for the most part - only coming out for their 'turn' at something.
The men folk just toughed out the cold weather.
Pretty sunset in November.
Okay, lastly, he pulled out his newest gun - a 33 aught. Now, I don't know how to spell it and I looked up 33 aught, ought and ott -nothing came up for a gun - so there you have my spelling choice. Aught. (almost goes with the story of the NL Boy). (aught - naught'y').
Jason and Allan went way up the side of this hill we were at and set up water filled paint cans - old juice containers with water, etc. This way when they get hit with the bullet they kind of explode and we can see it from very far away. Racing Allan back down the hill.
The naughty boy did his sharp shooting and we were done. Drove home. The last thing we did was watch a scary movie I had remembered seeing many, many years ago.
Dark Night of the Scarecrow with Charles Durning. Ooh. Nice way to end the evening.
Post - Jason just told me that it is not 33, but a 30-06. That is why I couldn't find anything relating to a gun named 33.

belated Thanksgiving - Part 1 out of 3

Our annual Snowflake Thanksgiving pilgrimage was a no-go this year. We had to break it to the kids, who at first were disappointed, but later said it turned out okay. Tuesday before Thanksgiving Thursday, we had a get together with a lot of the DeWitt side of the family so we didn't feel jilted too much. The volleyball we were too miss though, was almost unbearable. (More on that later)
So, a quick run to WalMart to get a turkey. This will be my first Thanksgiving turkey bake ever. (Yeah, that came out of my turkey. Thankfully Doug pulled it out for me. Gross.) And luckily the Butterball turkey came with instructions. Thanks for helping with the placing of the legs Katie). Mom DeWitt had always done it and now Diane has taken over and we can't remember when we hadn't ever gone to Snowflake for Thanksgiving. I had made 2 pies to share at the DeWitt get-together and then made 3 more for the big day. Stuffing was done by Katie - along with some sausage on the side done by Allan, if you wanted to stir it in.
Katie also cooked some canned corn. She was worn out.
Shannon was our table setter and she also won the Centerpiece contest. Actually she was the only entrant. And it was done in a matter of minutes.
Jason stepped up to the plate and mashed our potatoes for us this year. Umm...those potatoes were so creamy. oh, yeah, I forgot. Katie was also the potato taste-tester as well. I started to carve the turkey, but luckily Doug finished it. It was eatable, thank goodness and really quite good. Thank you very much.

You remember this don't you Jason?! Don't laugh Shannon. Keep it in!

After Thanksgiving mandatory napping time.
well, some of us know about the nap time rules. Thanks Jason for obeying. Katie was probably sleeping too, I just forgot to snap a picture.

a little more news...

8:34pm Monday night - we just found out that Celynda and Brian will be expecting baby number three in late August or early September. Congrats! I don't know if I'm supposed to be the one to tell, but I'm sure they knew that I would be sharing it around!

A little new one...

Grandbaby #6 on the way. Check out Jill's thankful blog: http://jjcrockett.blogspot.com/

Please read the previous blog before you continue here.......

I looked over my last blog and was a bit embarrassed that I said it took 4 minutes to get around the block riding and running, but there is an explanation. My tire was flat as previously stated and Allan ran about an 1/6 of the block and then said he wanted to quit and walk. Okay, now I feel better. Ta-ta for now! Oh, also, I was reading my sister Carries blog and she talked about her square-foot gardening. I made a comment and then for security reasons, we all get this, a box pops up for us to type in a 'word verification' and my word (if you can call them that) (more like mixed up letter words) was meweedn. Yep, a blog about gardening and my 'word' is me weeding. I'm sure she'll be doing that part of the gardening soon!
Here it is... I sometimes wonder how the word (letters) are chosen, now I think there must be some funny little man or woman in the world job force of blog word verificationizers who make up these things to be funny. This isn't the first word that I thought was fitting and funny - but I've just never blogged about it before.

1 out of 3

Today I was a mean mom. Okay, everyday I'm the mean parent so this is not really any news to any of my kids. However - Allan has promised to start his running again. He was setting records last year and thus, we know he has a talent for running. Last year he won in his age group at the Gilbert Days 5k run. (and by the way, Carolyn won in her age group and ALL women group!) So I have been after him to start up with the running group that runs at 8am at his school and since he hasn't done that I 'forced' him (as he tells me) to run around the block with me while I rode the bike.

I told him - 'three times around the block is about 1 mile so let's do that much.' 'No thanks' he replied. 'Um, no choice for you' I say. 'Mom'. 'Find your shoes, I'll get my bike'. 'MOM!'. 'Hurry, I'll meet your in the driveway'. 'MOOMMMM! You're forcing me to run when I don't want to'. 'Let me dry my tear, Allan'. 'MOM!' 'Allan, lets think of it as bonding time - just you and me time.' 'MOM! NO!' (coming in from being outside), 'It's cold out there this morning, Al, you might want to look for sweats or something'. 'I don't have any'. 'I'll look for some in Dad's drawers'. 'Mom, they'll be too big - they'll just fall off of me while I run'. 'Here Allan, wear these'. 'Dad's jamies? NO MOM'! 'Fine with me, let's go'. (walking down the stairs) 'Mom, I don't want to run'. 'Sorry'.

So off we went. He being a dorkus and me with a flatish back tire. We made it around the block one time. 1 out of 3. It's a start.

I can't find my picture of my hat and gloves -but they were needed this morning. And because I had 'whiney' boy with me - I shared my gloves and got cold. I guess I'll take half the blame of ending after 1 lap. So much for bonding time. A total of 4 minutes was not much time to use to bond.Whiney boy.
